Fishing Report - 7/9/25

Summer flows are arriving and we are seeing the main branches and tributaries dropping and water temperatures starting to rise in the afternoons. The Laramie and North Platte main branches are still offering great fishing, but with very high daytime temperatures forecasted, you may want to start keeping an eye on afternoon water temperatures climbing up over that 68 degree mark. For the best all-day options, head for the high country to check out some of the many small lakes and streams throughout the Medicine Bow National forest. Higher elevation tributaries will maintain stronger flows a little bit longer and water temperatures should be much more conducive to fishing into the hot afternoon hours.
We have had good reports coming out of the Plains Lakes as well as Snowy Range alpine lakes - still water is sounding like an excellent option right now as well!

Upper North Platte
Flows: ~ 250 cfs (Northgate)
Conditions: The Platte is settling into low summer flows and starting to warm up in the afternoon. Morning water temperatures were at 62 degrees in Northgate Canyon on 7/8. Expect to see water temperatures exceed 68 degrees in the late afternoons.
Good fishing is certainly still available during the morning hours with hopper droppers and nymph rigs producing fish. Caddis, PMDs and some Golden Stones make up the bulk of the hatches in the canyon right now. We are seeing fish getting a little more selective as flows continue to drop, so keep an eye on insect activity and hatch cycles!
Flies: Nymphs; Flexy Stone, Restless Stone, 20 Incher, Devil Jig, Duracell, HDA FAV, Blowtorch, Prince Nymph, Hare's Ear, RS2
Dries; Chubby Chernobyl, Amy's Ant, Elk Caddis, Stimulator, Corn Fed Caddis, Light Cahill, Para Adams
Streamers; Slumpbuster, Sculpzilla, Woolly Bugger, Tequeely, Stacked Blonde, Platte Spider
Laramie River
Flows: ~ 25 cfs (Woods Landing, WY)
Conditions: The Laramie River has dropped to very low flows in the upper sections around Woods Landing this week, with flows of just 10 cfs this morning. Flows are a little better in-town, but the Little Laramie is probably a better option this week until we see a bit more water back in the Big Laramie.
Flies: Dries; Little Yellow Sally, Humpy, Amy's Ant, Hippie Stomper, Light Cahill, Para Adams
Nymphs; Hare's Ear, Blow Torch, HDA FAV, Prince Nymph, 307 Nymph, Pheasant Tail, Copper John
Streamers; Mini Dungeon, Circus Peanut, Tequeely, Boogieman, Heisenberg, Baby Gonga, Slumpbuster, Sculpzilla, Thin Mint
Tributary Streams
Flows: ~ 15 - 100 cfs
Conditions: Tributaries to the Laramie and North Platte Rivers may offer a better option for more favorable water temperatures over the main branches as we head into a warmer week. Higher elevation tributaries will maintain better flows and cooler water for longer than the lower elevation main branches. Dry fly season is in full swing on the tributaries - hopper droppers and single or double dry rigs will be the most productive right now!
Flies: Dries; Chubby Chernobyl, Stimulator, Humpy, Light Cahill, Para Adams
Nymphs; Rubber Legs, 20 Incher, San Juan Worm, Squirmy Wormy, Restless Stone, CDC Stone, Blow Torch, Devil Jig, Copper John, HDA FAV, Hare's Ear, Prince Nymph, Hell Razor Craw
Streamers; Mini Bangtail, Boogieman, Thin Mint, Wolly Bugger, Platte River Spider, Tequeely, Slumpbuster, Pine Squirrel, Dirty Hippie, Baby Gonga
Vedauwoo/Pole Mountain
Conditions: Small streams and ponds throughout the Vedauwoo area will provide a great option for anglers looking to avoid the post-runoff crowds on the Platte and Laramie. The brookies throughout the area provide reliable fishing and aren't overly picky, a hopper dropper rig will almost always do the trick. Stay a little on the smaller side with dries and nymphs at this point in the season.
Flies: Amy's Ant, PMX, Chubby Chernobyl, Light Cahill, Para Adams, Copper John, Prince Nymph, Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, Wolly Bugger, Thin Mint, Platte River Spider
Alpine Lakes and Streams
Conditions: Alpine lakes and streams are open and accessible. We have had good reports coming out of the high country and it sounds like everything is fishing well!
Flies: GB Crystal Bugger, Woolly Bugger, Pine Squirrel, Ice Cream Cone, Zebra Midge, Amy's Ant, Hippie Stomper, Humpy, Para Adams
