Fishing Report - 5/4/25

Laramie River - 5/1/25
Laramie River - 5/1/25

It looks like we have a solid wade fishing window on the Laramie and North Platte Rivers going into this weekend. Cooler nighttime temperatures have stalled runoff a bit on both the Laramie and Upper North Platte, making for excellent wade fishing conditions over the past week and going into the weekend. We are starting to see fish feed a bit more aggressively, chasing streamers, and taking a pretty good variety of nymph patterns. It should be a great weekend of fishing around SE Wyoming! Watch for flows to rise and runoff to get started late next week with higher temperatures in the forecast.

Upper North Platte

Flows: ~ 216 cfs (Northgate)

Conditions: The Platte has seen a modest bump in flows over the past few days, but runoff remains a bit stalled and the Upper Platte should be in excellent wade fishing condition this weekend and early next week. Watch for flows to rise later next week and runoff to get started.

Flies: Nymphs; Rubber Legs, 20 Incher, San Juan Worm, Squirmy Wormy, Restless Stone, CDC Stone, Copper John, Prince Nymph, Devil Jig, Hell Razor Craw

Streamers; Mini Dungeon, Tequeely, Circus Peanut, Sculpzilla, Slumpbuster, Platte River Spider, Barely Legal

Laramie River

Flows: ~ 60 cfs (Woods Landing, WY)

Conditions: The Laramie River is seeing excellent fishing conditions right now. This may be a brief window with increasing temperatures next week, we can expect to see flows rise and runoff get started, but with cooler nighttime temperatures and water being diverted to the Pioneer Canal, the Laramie has been fishing great and should continue to provide good wade fishing opportunities over the weekend and early next week. Streamers have been very effective, and we have been seeing fish on the standard pre runoff nymph selections as well.

Flies: Nymphs; Rubber Legs, 20 Incher, San Juan Worm, Squirmy Wormy, Restless Stone, CDC Stone, Copper John, Prince Nymph, Devil Jig, 307 Nymph, Hell Razor Craw

Streamers; Mini Dungeon, Circus Peanut, Tequeely, Boogieman, Heisenberg, Baby Gonga, Slumpbuster, Sculpzilla, Thin Mint

Tributary Streams

Flows: ~ 50 - 400 cfs

Conditions: Tributaries to the Laramie and North Platte Rivers can be wildly variable this time of year. Currently we are seeing North Platte tributaries on the higher side, with the Little Laramie slowly starting to rise as well. There is plenty of variety in flows and clarity across the Laramie and North Platte drainages. This is the time of year to really keep an eye on flows and weather as conditions are on even more of a day-to-day basis than the main branches of the rivers. Fly selection and fishing techniques should mirror those used for the North Platte and Laramie at this point in the season.

Flies: Nymphs; Rubber Legs, 20 Incher, San Juan Worm, Squirmy Wormy, Restless Stone, CDC Stone, Copper John, Hell Razor Craw

Streamers; Thin Mint, Wolly Bugger, Platte River Spider, Tequeely, Slumpbuster, Pine Squirrel, Dirty Hippie, Baby Gonga

Laramie Plains Lakes

Conditions: The Plains Lakes are all open and reportedly fishing well! Now is a great time of year to target large fish on streamers patterns as fish should be cruising the shallows looking for an easy meal to bulk up on after a long winter under the ice.

Flies: Hell Razor Craw, Tequeely, Platte River Spider, Hot Head Leech, Pine Squirrel, Wolly Bugger, Juju Midge, WD-40
